The year 2025 is shaping up to be a pivotal moment for Uganda’s infrastructure growth. Key projects are expected to transform transport, trade, and energy, though progress has been uneven due to financial constraints.
Among the major highlights is the anticipated commissioning of Kabalega International Airport. Once operational, the airport will serve as a vital link for oil sector operations and improve international connectivity. In addition, the Gulu Logistics Hub is also targeting operational status this year, designed to boost regional trade and streamline the movement of goods.
At the same time, challenges remain. Many major projects, including the Kampala-Mpigi Expressway and several road and bridge initiatives, are facing significant delays or suspension due to government funding shortfalls. These setbacks have raised concerns about Uganda’s ability to keep pace with its growing infrastructure needs.
Beyond transport, Uganda is also seeing important developments in energy infrastructure. Work continues on the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), a controversial yet central project for the oil industry. Alongside this, the government and private investors are expanding into renewable energy, with new investments in solar and wind power aimed at ensuring sustainable growth.
