A Ugandan TikToker known as Kempaka.11, whose real name is Mugisha Geoffrey, has found himself in serious legal trouble after allegedly using his platform to launch a tirade of offensive remarks against Kabaka Ronald Muwenda Mutebi and the entire Buganda tribe.
Several videos circulating on Kempaka.11’s TikTok account reportedly featured what many have described as slanderous accusations targeting the revered Kabaka and the Buganda Kingdom. These claims ignited widespread concern and condemnation, drawing the attention of prominent figures like businessman Frank Gahumba, who publicly criticized the TikToker’s actions.
The authorities swiftly tracked down Kempaka, leading to his arrest on charges of hate speech. The gravity of the situation became clear as he was brought before Buganda Road Court to answer for his online conduct. The court proceedings took a significant turn when his request for bail was denied due to his sureties allegedly lacking the required documentation. As a result, Kempaka.11 has been remanded to Luzira Prison, marking a stark consequence for the power and potential repercussions of social media content. This case underscores the increasing scrutiny of online speech and the legal boundaries surrounding commentary on cultural and traditional institutions.
